Channel assignment changes

Have there been any thoughts of any channels moving frequencies?
Sure would be nice if 22 and 28 would move up into the uhf band.
Would make my antenna situation a lot better.
I see there are still a few channels in the low vhf band, yet.
I would think they would be forced to move at some point.

Re: Channel assignment changes

WBRE and WYOU are actually the strongest signals I get out of all the locals. The upper portion of VHF High is no problem as long as you have the proper antenna. The marketing of UHF only antennas as "HDTV Antennas" during the first few years of the transition didn't help anyone though, especially since it was already known that nearly every market had at least one station that was already broadcasting digitally in VHF or would be after the transition is completed.

The only changes happening for our market for the forseeable future is WNEP moving to 50 whenever their manufacturer clears their backlog and finally ships the needed equipment, and WSWB potentially moving to Penobscot in a year or two where they would be required to find a new number since, while it's okay for WSWB to be right next to WQPX when they both come from Scranton, it would create major adjacent channel interference the closer you get to either site if WSWB kept 31 when they move to Penobscot.

Re: Channel assignment changes

The point for me on antenna is I would like to do a hi-gain antenna array for uhf without having to fool with low band elements for only 2 channels as well as minimize any interference from HF/VHF amateur radio.
All uhf channels are no 'big' issue here at my location and have no issues with interference but fear I may have from overload if I need to use an amplifier.
Currently, I waited to see what the tree leaves caused for all season performance in order to decide on what best overall system would need to be.
2meter band operation in among trees causes a lot of scatter and kills antenna directivity especially when it rains and the leaves are wet.
About ready to raise a second tower for vhf/uhf less tree effects and will try TV reception being on the same tower with transmitting antennas in use in 6 and 2 meters.
With the current setup I have little to no infererence with sat, or ota tv but have problems with signal strength not being very solid from channel to channel ota so need to get up higher and farther from tree effects as well as using low loss feedline to hopefully not need an amplifier.
A balancing act over all the systems to try to meet all needs.
So, will see how it all ends up.
Btw, programming on the channels is not very interesting to me except I use channel 16 full time radar for propagation use and day to day outdoor functions and like 44 programming at times.
I can detect storm and lightnening conditions by pointing the beams in the direction of the acitivity.
Oh well, such is life.
