Re: Any updates?
According to their engineers there are no current problems with WSWB's signal. The problem could be that since you are in NY, WPXN, who moved back to 31 could be interfering in your area.

Re: Any updates?
jsganz,
I am curious were you are over the border in NY. Please at least give your township you are in. WPXN should still be 100 kw@360 m with a Cardioid Pattern due NW. However they do have an App in at the commission that will allow them to go if approved to 180 kw@360 m still with the Cardioid to the NW toward WSWB. The ultimate plan is to have WPXN at the Freedom Tower Site with 285 kw @458 meters HAAT still with a good chunk of power directed at WSWB. Channel 31 is a bad channel to be on right now. Per the engineering study performed by duTreil,Lundin,&Rackley for WPXN it states that they are short spaced to WSWB by 58.5 km. This is not good for either station especially when they (WPXN) are directing power toward Scranton. https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/prod/cdbs/...911&q_num=5200 I have heard that WSWB was planning to Change Channels to something else in future, with all of this increase from WPXN that would be a smart move. I'm at Divine Corners in Sullivan County, NY. Anyhow, I used to get WSWB periodically, but the last few months or so
it's been virtually nonexistant. I got it the other night at 1/10 when all my other NEPA stations were up near 10/10 signal. WPXN is located where? Here's my tvfool.com analysis: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...03fbdac3a57b1d |

Re: Any updates?
The WPXN transmitter is located at the Empire State Building, NYC.
WSWB is located on Bald Mtn., Scranton PA It appears that WSWB is definitely closer to you and you do have decent elevation near Liberty where you are. Both Stations have a virtually equal receive level In my opinion WSWB is a bit power shy @ 100kw, but being short spaced to WPXN creates a problem. They were originally supposed to go back to 38 Post Transition. But due to financial issues they stayed put on 31. 38 would also have given a problem due to being co-channeled with WWOR Secaucus which is also on the ESB in Manhattan. How is WQPX coming in? It's from the same site as WSWB but with higher power. WQPX is putting out 528 kw on RF Ch.32. Can you raise your antenna 5 ft.? Sometimes that's all it takes. FYI:WYOU/WDAU/WGBI-TV 22 transmitted from Bald Mtn, Scranton until the early 90's when they moved to Penobscot Mtn. East of Wilkes-Barre. Henry Cotterill

Yeah, I guess that WPXN is causing my problem. It's strange that it would cut out WSWB even though the antenna is pointed down toward
NEPA and not NYC. WQPX always comes in fine. |

Re: Any updates?
The low power level of WSWB is not helping much. That station should be around 500 kw. That's part of what the problem is here.
jsganz, I gotta know what make and model your antenna is? Henry

Henry,
I'm using a Winegard PR 9022 for UHF and YA 1713 for VHF. Seperate masts & preamps. They're not really high up, but I live at 1600' elevation with a clear view toward NEPA. Kyl, I know there's no problem at WSWB, but weren't they supposed to eventually increase their signal strength? |

Re: Any updates?
Not anytime soon. They're limited in power since they're short spaced to WPXN who had 31 allocated first. (Similar to how WPIX and WNET are limited since they chose to abandon their initial post transition allocations for their analog numbers, which were already allocated to WBRE and WYOU for the post transition)
WSWB's long term plan is to move to Penobscot and increase their power over there, but that won't happen for around another two years as they need to pick out a new number (since they can't stay on 31 as WQPX is still on 32 in Scranton which would create interference the closer you get to either site) and go through a bunch of regulatory related things to get that number allocated to Penobscot. |
