Question TVgos or noTvgos..that is the question..

Hi All!.. I'm a newbie to this forum but could do with some advice. I have an LGPX4DR tv and approx 3 weeks ago the Tv guide stopped listing programs. I did the usual things..rescanned, followed the instruction manual to the letter. I ended up ringing LG for help. They came back to me asking me to do the diagnostics thing...ok. After she did that she informed me my tvgos software version wasn't capable of receiving digital input and to resolve the problem i would need to purchase a converter box from Artec. WHAT??? Lets just say i was fuming...the tv cost me an arm and a leg already. The only thing i did notice on the Host Channel...Blank. The Host Id said 0ffff? I live in Eugene OR and now cant seem to find a Host Channel i could try and connect to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Many Thanks for reading

If you didn't get this resolved yet you will be better off contacting Rovi Corp directly. Here is their email address:
CE_customer_support@rovicorp.com
Include in the email:
1: Name, address, city, zip code.
2: Make and model of tv and the version of TVGOS you have. In your case version 8
3: Name of cable company and if you are cable ready, cable box, or cable card.
4: Known host station. Find in this list: http://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=tvgos
5: If you are also using an antenna.
6: That you already contacted the tv manufacturer and the advice they gave you.
7: A breif description of what happened like the guide was working fine and then the data stopped and when it stopped.
8: Be polite and be patient because it will take a while. They will probably send you a diagnostics form to fill out so you will need a basic version of microsoft word.

Unless you have a late version 8 or early version 9 which can recieve the digital TVGOS data, I have to assume that you are getting your guide data from cable because they are either converting the legacy stream back to analog or they have an analog insterter installed in your head end.
The artec box will only work for those that are using an antenna.

When it comes to TVGOS that is the usual response you will get from everybody. I was fortunate that the head engineer of my cable company knew what TVGOS was and took the steps neccessary to get it fixed. He got an analog inserter and a digital inserter from Rovi Corp and installed them in the head end of my cable system.

In your case contacting Rovi Corp will get you the best results. The only thing is it will take some time to get everything straightened out because there is only a few people who work in the TVGOS division and they are swampped with work. So be patient with them.

Re: TVgos or noTvgos..that is the question..

Hi Jed
Thanks for all the info you posted. Just to bring you up to speed on the situation. We went through all your links checking each one, before you post came through my husband decided to buy an artec box which LG suggested in order for us to start receiving Tvgos again...T3APR-t was the model. It arrived and we followed all the instructions to the letter... set up the tv..switched off and went to bed. The following morning we turned the tv on.. and got...wait for it... NOTHING! No surprises there really i wasn't holding up much hope. One of your suggestions was to check out the 'rabbitears' site. Wish we had done this before buying the box. Turns out according to their site Eugene doesn't have Tvgos....ohhhhh dearrrrr... guess we'll have to move?.. NAHHHH! So... we've emailes Rovicorp and up to now still waiting for reply...thank god patience is my forte! We used Direct Tv service for a year but cancelled it due to finances... just use the tv for the programs we liked and the menu which was great until it went bye bye.. so no cable here now for us. i will keep you posted on what happens. Thanks again Jed you're a lifesaver in my eyes and i appreciate all your advice

Your welcome!

If you don't mind me asking are you still hooked up to cable or did you terminate your cable service and then switched to a roof top antenna? If you did you will have to change your settings in the TVGOS set up menu. The instructions are located on page 29 and page 89 of your users manual.
http://us.lge.com/download/product/f...2DR_Manual.pdf

If you have a good rooftop antenna and you can tune in the CBS HD channel in from portland to your north or medford to your south, you can probably get the TVGOS to work by using a zip code from the city where the signal is coming from. You will also have to hook up the artec box and set it up for that same location.

Re: TVgos or noTvgos..that is the question..

Hi Jed,
The cable service was terminated tho they left the dish on the roof and the box...weird. We rescanned the tv at the time so that was ok. All this happened mid January 2010. The rooftop antenna we currently have is an HD however we've got mountains all round to the north and south so picking up Portlands signal and Medfird is a no-go. Still waiting for reply from Tvgos tho. Don't hold your breath cos i'll bet my face turns blue long brfore yours

Re: TVgos or noTvgos..that is the question..

noggin,

Sorry for bringing this old thread back to life, but I just stumbled upon it and you could save me a lot of leg-work in figuring out what's going on with my TVGOS since we're in the same boat.

I live in Corvallis and all my TV comes from Eugene via a roof-mounted antenna. I've spent thousands on equipment (two Sony DHG-HDD500 DVRs) and ever since the switch to digital, I stopped getting any guide data. I updated my firmware around the same time to a version that supposedly supports the new digital signal, but still nothing. I contacted KVAL (CBS) around the same time and they said they did not provide the TVGOS signal and didn't imply they ever would. I also contacted PBS, but they didn't have a clue what I was talking about and then ignored me after I tried to explain.

According to rovi (http://digitaltransition.macrovision.com/digtrans.aspx), TVGOS is available OTA in Eugene, but I have my doubts.

My question for you is, did you ever have any luck getting your guide to fill in? If so, what host channel are you using?

Thanks!

Re: TVgos or noTvgos..that is the question..

Hi snag,
Thanks for the post. In answer to all your questions, all i can say is.... no luck here either! We tried all the places you did, Kval, PBS and rovi with a zero response. We have a cracking tv set but no tvguide which is still frustrating every time we switch it on. According to Rabbitears.com there is no tvgos in Eugene. Thankfully all we bought extra was the digi box recommende by LG which does nothing but gether dust. Sorry i can't be any more help to you. If you find some 'back door' way to receive tvgos in our area please let me know i'd appreciate it
Thanks again snag.

Re: TVgos or noTvgos..that is the question..

That's what I was afraid of. I don't know why the folks at KVAL have such a problem with TVGOS. Oh well. Thanks for the quick reply.

I know of no 'back door' to getting the signal. Some sort of Internet-connected repeater would be sweet if only such a thing existed.

For your entertainment, here's the full response I got from KVAL Engineering almost exactly a year ago:

KVAL has no plans to carry TVGOS data at this time.
